In Syldavia, a plot is being hatched against the king. Activists in the pay of the neighbouring country, Borduria, want to steal his sceptre, the symbol of the power he holds. Tintin wants to save this small monarchy, lost in the middle of the Balkans, and its illustrious representative, Muskar XII. Hunted by the henchmen of the Z.Z.R.K. (Zyldav Zentral Revolutzionär Komitzät), Tintin flees through the dark Syldavian forests. His legendary intuition allows him to escape the ambush of Sirov and Zlop. After a brief stop at the Crown Inn, he climbs into the Cadillac of a diva from the Scala in Milan. He gets out quite quickly, on the first pretext that comes up: the song of the Milanese Nightingale has literally traumatised him!

Tintin Car N°34-The interpreter's car

Tintin, Snowy and Captain Haddock have just landed in Borduria in search of Professor Calculus. Their arrival has been announced and they are immediately taken in charge by the ZEP, the dreaded border secret police. Agents Kronick and Himmerszeck guide our heroes through the city of Szohôd. The car pulls into Plekszy-Gladz square, at the foot of the statue of the Marshal. One of the two interpreters plays the role of guide and shows Tintin and Captain Haddock the government palace. The moustache, symbol of the power embodied by Marshal Plekszy-Gladz, can be seen everywhere, including on the grille of the car that drives the characters towards the Zsnôrr hotel.

In The 7 Crystal Balls (plate 46, box B2), to avoid the roadblocks that would jeopardise their plan, the crooks change cars to go incognito. But they didn't count on the detective skills of Tintin, who, as soon as he arrived on the scene, instantly discovered the pink pole... or rather the beige one. For it was in a model of this colour, inspired by a 1936 Buick, that they managed to escape.

In The Castafiore Emerald (plate 56, box D3), after many twists and turns, the Château de Moulinsart is about to be restored to its former glory. Parked just outside the entrance, a cab awaits the famous Milanese nightingale, Bianca Castafiore, accompanied by her dresser, Irma, and her faithful pianist, Igor. All three salute the captain and his friends one last time before taking their seats in this blue Peugeot 403, heavily laden with luggage.

Tintin Car N°40 - La Custom de Sbrodj

In Destination Moon (page 56, vignette B1), a convoy takes the heroes to the rocket launch pad. This car trip is an opportunity for Captain Haddock to express his doubts to his friend Tintin about the viability of the machine. Because the latter fears being “scattered into little pieces, like a puzzle” – says The Gunslingers – during takeoff.

Tintin Car N°41-The Bugatti of Bobby smiles

A mobster tells Bobby that a truck belonging to another gang is on its way to transport a clandestine shipment of whisky barrels. In the barrels are armed policemen. Tintin accompanies them. The convoy is forced to stop because in the middle of the road, a tree trunk blocks the way. Bobby Smiles and four of his men appear, armed and threatening the truck driver and his passenger, Tintin, under the cover of a disguise. In a dramatic turn of events, the uniformed policemen come out of their respective hiding places and point a gun at the criminals. Is it game over? Well, no, because the leader of the crooks flees under the nose of the police. In front of Tintin, Snowy and the chief of police, he drives off in his racing car.

We are at the beginning of a terrible manhunt. Tintin, whose head has been put at risk by the Japanese imperial army, has managed to elude the surveillance of his pursuers. But alas, with the complicity of Dawson, the head of the international concession in Shanghai, he is thrown into prison and sentenced to be beheaded! Fortunately, Mister Wang is watching. He has organized the hero's escape. Soon Tintin finds himself at the wheel of an armoured car! On the way to freedom and the house of Mister Wang Jen-Ghié!

In Shanghai, Tintin has a price on his head, following a complaint from the trafficker Mitsuhirato who accuses him of an assassination attempt on his person and of being a spy in the service of the Chinese. Posters have been put up all over the city. And it is precisely one of them that Gibbons discovers as he is about to drive through a roadblock set up by the Japanese military in his beautiful convertible. The American industrialist's blood runs cold. He is to get the promised reward! Take him to the commander of the guard post and he will give him valuable information about the fugitive!

This special-issue model of the Swissair bus from page 45 of the The Calculus Affair (1956) is convertible: the roof can be removed to show the passengers inside. The Swissair bus from the Tintin cars series was created in 2013 as a limited edition run of 12,500 numbered copies.
